Bret Manner, 47, passed away peacefully at home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on November 4, after a long illness with cancer. A graduate of Mercer University (B.A., Philosophy), and long-time resident of both Baton Rouge and Santa Fe, New Mexico, Bret loved music, LSU football, and all LSU Sports (Geaux Tigers!), a good glass of red, comedy, tennis, and playing golf with his father.
He was preceded his death by his Grandparents H.H Manner Jr. and Iva Manner, and Mildred and Edward E. Evans; Aunts Celia Manner and Madelon Manner Arceneaux, sister Emily Manner, and parents George Charles Manner and Barbara Fitzgerald Evans.
He is survived by his wife, Jaime Dupre Manner; Aunts Carol Manship and Diane Evans; and cousins Annette Arceneaux Burton, John, Brian, and Michael Arceneaux, Buckner Harris III, Grant Harris, Paul Kadair Jr., and Julia, Cameron, and Logan Gay; his in-laws from Houma, La., and his many friends from childhood, to college (Lambda Chi Alpha), and beyond, with a special thanks to Marc Parenti and Keith Barden for their love and support.
A universally beloved bon vivant, wickedly funny, impossibly quick with a joke, and a master conversationalist, Bret was the heart of an unimaginably large circle of friends and admirers spread across the country. Above all, he was kind and generous; Bret loved his friends and family fiercely and deeply, which was most evident in his always-present love for his wife, Jaime. Theirs was a special love that never wavered.
Thank you to Mary Bird Perkins, Dr. Bryan Bienvenu, Dr. Michael Delio, Dr.Robert Fields, Dr. John Lyons, Dr. Mary Raven, and everyone who worked with these amazing people, including Caroline, Elaise, Jennifer, Christian, Meghan, Courtney, Lindsay, Cousin Deb and the nurses on the 6th floor.
A Memorial and Celebration of Life Service in honor of Bret will be held at 5:30 pm, Saturday, January 14, 2023, at The Guru, 1857 Government St., Baton Rouge, LA.
