Elizabeth "Liz" V. Murphy, age 67, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 11, 2018, at her residence surrounded by family. Born on September 25, 1950, she was a native of Head of Island, LA and a resident of French Settlement, LA. Visiting at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 15710 Hwy. 16, French Settlement, LA, on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon conducted by Father Jason Palermo. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Gary "Murf" Murphy; daughter, Brigette Martin and husband, James, of French Settlement; sisters, Sandra Rogers and Dianne Vicknair; brother, Sherman Vicknair; granddaughter, Amber Martin; best friend, Rosalind Poirrier; son-in-law, Avery Latham; special canine, Dolly; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by a daughter, Brandi A. Murphy Latham; sisters, Carla Lowe and Delores Aucoin; parents, Herman and Emma Vicknair; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jesse and Lucy Murphy. She graduated from French Settlement High School in 1968 as Valedictorian and attended LSU. She was co-owner of Murf's Superette in French Settlement for 24yrs. She loved spending time with her family, quilting, making arts and crafts, especially jingle bell necklaces, sewing and traveling to craft shows. She was a smart, compassionate and thoughtful woman with a heart of gold. She also exhibited strength and courage in her 12yr battle with Multiple Sclerosis. In the end, she won the victory by being called up to Heaven to spend eternity with Jesus.
