James A. Allen, age 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 26, 2018, at his home at 1:00 p.m. Allen, a native and long-time resident of Opelousas had been living with his daughter in Baton Rouge for the past several years. He was the former owner of Acadiana Signs & Designs in Opelousas, LA. Mr. Allen was well-known in his community for his giving nature and his talented artwork as well as his singing, joke telling, puppetry, magic and winning personality. But most remember him as the man who collected the mice, was Coo-Coo the Clown, and a man who always had a smile to offer. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Landry Catholic Church, 1020 N. Main St., Opelousas, LA. There will be an inurnment immediately following at Bellevue Memorial Park, 110 N. Market Street. Survived by two daughters, Doreen "Dody" Allen Korn and husband, Al, and Beth Allen; four grandchildren, Alex LaPlace, Eric Patton, Allison Mumphrey and husband, Gary, and August James Korn and wife, Tai; and five great grandchildren, Payton A. McKenzie, Ben and Nick Mumphrey, and Isabella and Sammy Korn. Preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Needom Allen; parents, Frederick Clifford and Constance Meginley Allen; and he was the youngest of his seven sisters and six brothers, which all preceded him in death.
