A resident of St. Amant, he died at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge on Sunday, November 30, 2008 after a courageous battle with ALS. He was 55 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He loved his job as a paintersheetrockplaster foreman at LSU and was always willing to give someone a helping hand. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Terri Bourque Norwood; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shantel and Kenneth Whetstone of Denham Springs; and Skye and Larry Townsend, Jr. of Gonzales; one son, Benjamin Ben James Norwood of St. Amant, and friend Rebekah Solar, of Prairieville; two grandchildren, Angel and Rose Whetstone; a special aunt and cousins, Dorothy Villeneuve of Gonzales and her children, in-laws and grandchildren; siblings Tommy Barnett, Juanita Fuselier, Raymond Barnett, Linda Lewis, Wanda Hull and Lee Brecheen. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 1, 2008 at Ascension Funeral Home, 426 West New River St., Gonzales, from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm with recitation of the rosary at 7:00 pm; and on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at St. Mark Catholic Church from 8:00 am until mass of Christian burial at 10:00 am. Interment to follow in St. Theresa of Avial Catholic Church Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his birth father, James Ancy Norwood, Sr.; his birth mother, Marie Townley Norwood; foster father, Orland G. Brecheen; foster mother, Laura E. Breechen. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Whetstone, Larry Townsend, Jr., Ben Norwood, Kevin Badame, Willie Neusetzer, C.J. Villeneuve, Larry Villeneuve and David Villeneuve.
