James Smith, Jr.

A resident and native of Dutchtown, he died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at age 86. He was a World War II veteran who served in France and Germany. Visiting at Ascension Funeral Home, 426 W. New River St., Gonzales, Tuesday, Aug. 17, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m. Interment in Prairieville Cemetery. Survived by two sons, Darrell Smith and fiance Janet Fontenot, and Barry Smith stepgrandson, Joey Fontenot and fiance Paige two stepgreatgrandchildren, Chris Fontenot and Theressa Cowart stepgreatgreatgrandson, Brendon Cowart and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife 49 years, Winnie Duplessis Smith five sisters, Verna, Tillie, Leda, Zuma and Leonie two brothers, Melvin and Kenneth and stepgranddaughter, Melanie Fontenot. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Many thanks to all the doctors, nurses and sitters who cared for him.
