John Ortis

April 4, 1958 — August 2, 2023

 

On August 2, 2023, at 9:45 am, John gained his wings. John fought a long hard fight but God said it was time. John is survived by his wife, Pamela LaBasse Ortis; stepdaughter, Laura Spurgeon (Jed ); step-grandfather to Peyton; stepson, Gabe Minnich, (Ashley); step-grandson, Skyler; son, Jonathan Ortis, (Allison); grandbaby, sister, Connie Kennedy,( David), nephew, Robert Kennedy; niece Meagan Kennedy Mills (Keegan); great-niece, Addison Mills; sister-in-law, Wendy Chester (Bobby); nice, Ashley; niece, Amanda Nicolini (Barry); great-nephew, Brody. His girls, Annie and Bella. He is also survived by a host of cousins, family, and friends.


John is preceded in death by his father, John A. Ortis and mother, Sadie Leblanc Ortis.

John was proud to be called a Cajun. He first played in the band Rice and Gravy with Wallace Trahan, then he played with Rodney Thibodeaux in Tout Les Soir, and then he played with Nouveaux Cajun X-Press . He played alongside Butch Golsan (Charmain) Butch Landry (Fran), and Jesse Deroche (Crystal)


John played with gifted musicians all over the country.
He recorded his own CD A Cajun Kind of Christmas, which you can hear at Christmas.


A special thanks to Hospice Baton Rouge; Candice, Brittany, Lexi, and Randall, Charmaine and Butch Golsan, Butch Landry, Ochsner Cancer Center, and The Groves entire staff, especially Mrs. Linda.
Our Lady of The Lake Childrens Hospital special thanks to the Respiratory Department, and 911.
