Joseph Louis Broussard, of Gonzales, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at Landmark Nursing Facility of Baton Rouge. He was 91. He is survived by a son, Phillip Broussard and wife Linda; three daughters, Kay Dornier and husband Ronnie, Debra Banta and husband Ronnie, and Kathy Brown and husband Max; 10 grandchildren, Paula Gebhart, Pattie Lewis, Phillip Broussard Jr., Penny Graves, Dawn Broussard, Ron Dornier, Pamela Selvage, Michael Brown, David Brown and Deion Banta; seven great-grandchildren, Jessica Lewis, Jase Broussard, Gabrielle Broussard, Michael Brown Jr., Isabelle Brown, Terryn Selvage and Stephen Dornier; two brothers, Pearlie and Oakley Broussard; and three sisters, Ruby Chaney, Pearl Cowart and Ganell Knippers. Preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Hoffman Broussard; parents, David and Ella White Broussard; son, David and wife Betty Broussard; three brothers, Ruffus Broussard, David L. D.L. Broussard and Carl Cat Broussard; and sister, Opal Broussard. He retired from the Hansen Disease Center, Carville, and was a veteran of World War II. He served as an usher at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 8342 and East Ascension Sportmans League. Visiting at Ascension Funeral Home, Gonzales, on Monday, Feb. 2, was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Prairieville, on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial in Prairieville Cemetery.
