Lionell Douglas Glaze was born on 05061938 and died peacefully on 10222013 at the St. Joseph Carpenter House in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was a native of Pine Prairie, Louisiana until age 9 when the family moved to Gonzales, Louisiana, where he resided until his death.
He was a graduate of Gonzales High School where he served as the quarter back for the Gonzales High Bulldogs. He was also a member of the 1957 basketball team, which was the only basketball team in Ascension Parish to ever win the State Championship. He later coached little league baseball and was a lifelong avid golfer. He was one of the founding members of the Gonzales Country Club for which he served a term on the Board of Directors. He was a retiree of Shell Chemical, Geismar plant.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John S. Glaze, Sr., his mother, Clara Johnson Glaze, and a brother, John S. Glaze, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Sondra Gautreau Glaze, his children, Daina Glaze Gautreaux, Debbie Glaze Fontenot, and Dean Randall Glaze soninlaw Galen Gautreaux, daughterinlaw Ursula Ann Glaze grandchildren, Brady Gautreaux, Barrett Gautreaux, Britt Gautreaux, Jeffrey Williams and wife, Aimee Hughes Glaze, Kelsey Fontenot Flores and husband Jason Flores , Ashton Glaze, Jarred Sigur, Jeramie Sigur two great grandchildren, Evan Williams and Bennett Gautreaux a sisterinlaw, Maxine Marchand Glaze many nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Ascension Funeral Home, 426 West New River, Gonzales, Louisiana on Thursday, October 24, 2013, from 5 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and will resume on Friday, October 25, 2013, at First United Methodist Church of Gonzales, 224 West Constitution Street, Gonzales, Louisiana from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow in Cornerview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers you may donate to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center Gonzales site or a charity of your choice.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. John Knapp, Dr. J. Frusha retired, Dr. Ronald Leo, Dr. Steven Kelley, Dr. M. Patrick Stagg Dr. Sheldon Johnson, and Dr. James Morris for the many years of dedication and excellent care provided, as well as the staff of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, St. Elizabeths Hospital, Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, Pinnacle Home Health and St. Josephs Carpenter House.
