Loretta Artigue Bernard was born on December 27, 1931, and passed from this life on September 8, 2016. She was a native of Port Allen, Louisiana, and long-time resident of Gonzales, Louisiana. She and her husband were credentialed ministers of the United Pentecostal Church International and pioneer missionaries to Korea for 20 years, where they established 22 churches, a Bible college, and three U.S. military fellowships. They also established three churches in Louisiana, including a Spanish-speaking congregation, and she co-authored a book, In Search of Holiness. Loretta Bernard is preceded in death by her parents, Edward "Shug" Artigue and Mary Stermer Artigue; and her two siblings, Edward Artigue and Gertude Artigue Mitchell. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Elton David Bernard; her three children, David K. Bernard and wife, Connie Bernard, Karen Bernard Hatcher and husband, Charles R. Hatcher III, and Julie Bernard Celey and husband, Johnny Celey; her seven grandchildren, Jonathan D. Bernard and wife, Sara, Krista F. Hatcher, Daniel K. Bernard and wife, Kalee, Lindsey Bernard Crestman and husband, Cullen, Von de Leigh Hatcher, Michael Celey, and Christopher Celey; and three great grandchildren, Elijah Bernard, Adelle Bernard, and Rylynn Bernard. Visiting on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Centro de Vida, Iglesia Pentecostal Unida, 13477 Pamela Street, Gonzales, LA 70737, from 11:00 a.m. until service at 1:00 p.m. Private interment will follow.
