We loved our mom, Mary L. Puderer Adams. She was born in Jefferson, LA on March 9, 1934. She died at home at the age of 91 in Maurepas, LA on April 14, 2025.
God blessed us with a mom who had an incredible attitude towards life. She married our dad, Russell J. Adams, a military man, in New Orleans in 1951. Thirty-two years as a military wife gave life and understanding to the slogan “We Serve Too”. Our mom and dad worked together to raise five sons and one daughter in a home that was filled with discipline, fun, love, joy, and laughter. As children, I don’t believe we realized the sacrifice each of our parents made to give our generation and future generations the gift of living in a free country.
Our mom was the strength that held her family of six children together, while our dad an Army EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal Specialist) served within the United States and in foreign wars with “boots on the ground.” Our mom lived a “nomad’s life” constantly leaving behind friends and moving her children and belongings to different military bases, cities, and states. She lived a life knowing that when the phone rang day or night activating Army EOD she might become a widow left alone to raise six children. In 1979 our dad died from a service-connected illness. Our mom was left a widow alone to raise two young sons still living at home.
She leaves behind six children: Russell Joseph Adams, Jr, James Adams, Debbie (Sully) Adams O’Sullivan Hitt, Jeffery Adams, Dennis Adams, and Andy Adams. God blessed her with wonderful daughters-in-law: Audrey Adams, Margaret Adams, Tina Adams, and Pat Adams. She leaves behind Henry Hitt who said that he was her “favorite son-in-law” knowing good and well that he was her favorite and that he equally shares that “favorite” spot in her life with Dan O’Sullivan her late son-in-law. God blessed her with bonus daughters: Peggy Deffner, Sheryl Adams Walgamotte, Stephanie Lewis Hardy, Cindy Lewis and Tammy Lewis Leake. She leaves behind grandchildren: Leslie Moore, Jacob Breaux, Joseph Russell Adams II, Russell Joseph Adams III, Jimmy Adams (deceased), Debbie Hitt Thayer, Jeffery Clark Adams, Jr., Ashley Hooter, Faith Adams Ruegge, Tonya Dortch, Patrick Adams, and Noel Adams Lewis. She also leaves behind too many great grandchildren to count.
