Mildred Edwards

Mildred Juanita Edwards died on Monday Oct. 13, 2014 at 9:36 am at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. She is 86 years old and a resident of Baton Rouge. She was born in Epps, LA and grew up in Laurel, Mississippi. Visiting at Sherwood Baptist Church, 1180 S. Flannery Rd., Baton Rouge on Friday, Oct. 17, 2014 from 10 am until service at 1 pm conducted by Dr. David L. Womack. Interment at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Survived by three daughters and sons in law: Diane and Richard Laird, Denise and Calvin Jones, Daryl and Mike Walker two sons: Mark Edwards and Scott Edwards one sister, Shirley Price one brother, Larry Miller, Sr. nine grandchildren: Todd Rhodes, Ashley Long, Jennifer Rayborn, Ian Ritchie, Hayden Ritchie, Ryan Walker, Evan Walker, Drew Edwards and Sean Edwards and eight greatgrandchildren. Preceded in death by husband Harold L. Edwards parents Joseph and Addie Miller brother, Joseph E. Miller Jr. sister, Karla Clanton. She was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her. Nita, as her friends knew her, enjoyed life with her friends at Laurel High School and married her love, Harold L. Edwards. They settled in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to attend LSU. Her vocation included many years with the Internal Revenue Service and the Social Security Administration in Baton Rouge and she retired from those services in the mid eighties. She then became a full time grandmother, which she truly loved. Nita often expressed how very good God was to her during her life and how fully blessed she felt. She often praised and thanked Him for His tender care of her family. She excelled in hospitality and assisting others as she learned of their needs. Nita will be remembered as a beautiful, gracious lady with a big, caring heart. She also would want to thank all her neighbors who were dear friends over many years and the wonderful hospital staff at OLOL who were so kind and considerate in her care and comfort.
