Wilbert Paul Braud, age 96, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2022. The son of Edward Braud, Jr. and Virginia Gautreau Braud, he was born in Gonzales on June 26, 1926. Known by many as "Beet", he worked at Gonzales Motor Co. and Braud's Auto Parts from which he ran the Greyhound Bus Station. Illness in the family required moving to Arizona for several years. After returning to Louisiana, he continued to work in the auto parts field for many years. Wilbert was a proud veteran having served in the Navy during WWII as a LCVP Higgins Boat pilot. He was a member of the American Legion, and the Lion's Club, and until recent years could be seen at Senior Sock hops where he was known for his love of dancing.
Wilbert is survived by sons Ronald(Cheryl), Charles(Carolyn), Philip(Barbara), Jeffory(Donna), and daughter Virginia Frederic, 7 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren, also survived by siblings Doris LeBlanc, Evelyn Logan, Nolan Braud(Janice), sister-in-law Audrey Braud, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, wife Velma Saenz Braud, siblings infants Ruth and Ernest Braud, Viola Philippe, Shirley LeBlanc, and Edward Braud III, son-in-law Johnny Frederic, and inlaws Sam LeBlanc, Bob Philippe, Leslie LeBlanc and R.D. Logan.
The family would like to thank Magnolia Assisted Living for their care of Wilbert, especially Tammy, Alima, and his sitter Taz.
Visitation at Ascension Funeral Home, 426 West New River Street on July 13, 2022 from 9AM to 11AM. Burial to follow at Hope Haven Cemetery, 604 East Hwy 30, Gonzales, LA.
